I leave for the OWFI conference Thursday evening. My brother’s coming to pick me up so Richard can keep the van. They have a fun-filled weekend planned sans Momma. (Begone, mommy guilt!)
Today I polished my synopsis. One page, as requested, single-spaced, 1-inch margins. I’ve probably spent 12 hours agonizing over that single page, but it is complete. Then ten minutes after I printed three copies, the lady in charge of editor appointments emailed those of us with appointments, saying that all writing samples must be double-spaced, 24 to 26 lines per page. I got a little panicky for a sec.
I talked myself through it. #1, a synopsis is not a writing sample, per se. #2, the editor specifically asks for a single page in his meeting guidelines, and nobody in their right mind would expect a synopsis to be, for all purposes, half a page. A blurb, yes. A synopsis, no. Shoot, I think a whole page is pushing it.
So I’m okay now. I think my page reads solid and looks neat. I’ll also take along a few copies of maybe the first chapter or so. I debated whether or not to take the entire 3-chapter partial I prepared, but I figure if anyone gets hooked they’ll ask for more.
For my contact info, I’m foregoing my home address. I have little doubt that the first method of contact will be either email or phone, so that’s all I’m putting. Much less clutter at the top of the page.
That reminds me. I guess I should put my agent’s contact info on there too…? More clutter! Ah, well.
I still need to print the sample and make up a few business cards. I like to carry those in case I see some Internet friends at the con. I don’t really need cards for the pros I’ll meet. They’ll either have my contact info on the writing sample, or they’ll ask me to contact them.

Below are some pictures I took at the garage sale. They should get bigger if you click them. Below that is a video from Taylor Swift for your enjoyment. I love her.
